Al Raha, a newly developed and still growing waterfront area, is on the mainland north-east of the city center facing Yas Island and is adjacent to Khalifa City A. It runs in a strip along the beachfront known as Ladies Beach, giving it a classy feel. The area is scheduled for further development which will make this area in high demand because of its beachfront location.
It is however, not as close to the city center as some neighborhoods. The area along the waterfront is called Al Raha Beach and the inland part is called, Al Raha Gardens. It will take you 25 minutes to get to the city center, 5 minutes to Yas Island and about 10 minutes to the airport. Both a convenient location and with plenty of housing, amenities and the beach.
This area offers predominantly villa compounds with recreational facilities included as well as apartment buildings.
As it is on the mainland the property prices are lower than on the island and this goes for all the Abu Dhabi mainland neighborhoods. The properties nearer the waterfront are villas and further from the sea are the luxury apartments.
Al Raha International School is located here. With excellent facilities and an international curriculum this school has a great reputation.
Spots quickly fill up with the residents in the area so if you are moving here be sure to call the school and get your name on the waiting list before you arrive.
Entertainment and services
The Al Raha Shopping Center is located in this district and contains a supermarket and pharmacy, opticians as well as other stores and places of entertainment.
There are a few good fast food places in here and a movie theater. Even though we lived very close to the shopping center I still tended to go in to town as it is quite small!
In this area is also the Beach Hotel, a 5 star hotel complex where the public can go to the hotel nightclub and restaurants. This area also boasts the Abu Dhabi Golf Club (5 minutes away) and Abu Dhabi Sailing Club.
For medical treatment the nearest place is Lifeline Hospital in Mussafah but for minor emergencies there is the pharmacy in the shopping center. Most expats make the trek to Al Noor hospital which is near the Carrefour on the main road into town.
