A tour of the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital is one of the unique things to do!
It is the largest falcon clinic in UAE and serves many countries nearby as well. They have treated over 42,000 falcons. Falconry is a popular sport in UAE. It originates from the Bedouins who would train the falcons to hunt for prey such as hares and a large bird called the Houbara Bustard. The meat was necessary to supplement their diet. Nowadays it is practiced primarily for sport.
Your Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital tour starts with a visit to the falconry museum where you can learn about the sport and see the equipment that is used.
Did you know falcons require a passport to travel? This is to
curb the illegal trade. You will learn about the registration and
passports for falcons.
You also get to visit the examination room where you can observe the veterinarians treating the falcons with either feather repair or a manicure/pedicure.
There is a free flight aviary where you can watch these magnificent birds flying and you can take a photo with one on your arm! This is one of the family friendly Abu Dhabi attractions and it is both educational and fun! There is a lovely garden to enjoy as well. The tour runs twice a day at 10 am and 2 pm and last 2 hours.
